What we do

HVAC is the heating and cooling that keeps a Kalispell house livable. We work on the equipment you already have, and we install new systems when it's time. You talk to the owner — not a dispatcher reading a script.

We service all common brands. MRCOOL is the ductless line we partner on, but your existing furnace or AC does not have to be a particular name for us to work on it.

Is it one of these?

No heat · Furnace short-cycling · AC not cooling · Ice on the lines · Heat pump not heating in the cold · Strange noises or smells

Not sure? Call (406) 260-2952 — we'll tell you what to check and whether it can wait.

Furnace repair

No heat, short cycling, a furnace that starts then shuts off, a blower that never stops, or a burning-dust smell that is not just first-fire of the season — those are furnace calls. Common parts are igniters, flame sensors, pressure switches, inducer motors, capacitors, and control boards.

We diagnose first. If the heat exchanger is cracked or the furnace is at the end of a long repair string, we say so. We don't pad a no-heat night with extras — you get the diagnosis and the price before work starts.

AC repair

Not cooling, icing on the lines, a condenser that hums but the fan is still, or a breaker that will not stay on — stop resetting it. Ice is a shut-it-off-and-call problem. Running an iced compressor is how a capacitor job becomes a compressor job.

We check filters and airflow first, then electrical, then refrigerant. A dirty filter is still the most common “AC is broken” call we run in July.

Mini splits

Mini splits heat and cool without ducts. They are a good fit for additions, shops, older Kalispell houses with no ductwork, and rooms that never quite catch up. In this climate the unit has to be a cold-climate or Hyper Heat model — a generic 20°F heat pump is the wrong tool here.

We install them, and we sell DIY kits you can put in yourself. Either way we help you size the zone so you are not buying 36k for a bedroom. Shop kits on the MRCOOL shop, or call if you want us on the wall.

Cold-climate heat pumps can qualify for Flathead Electric rebates — see how the rebates work.

We install ducted heat pumps and ductless mini splits (including MRCOOL options).

Central air installation

A central air system is the outdoor condenser, the indoor coil, the line set, and the ductwork that already moves air through the house. We size it to the home — not to a round number off a flyer — then set the condenser, run the lines, make the electrical connection, charge the refrigerant, and check airflow.

If the ducts are undersized, leaky, or never meant for air conditioning, we tell you that before we set a unit that will short cycle or ice. New installs include a walkthrough of filters, thermostats, and what Flathead Electric or Lincoln Electric rebates may apply.

Furnace installation: we size the furnace to your home, not a round number, and check the ducts first.

Maintenance and tune-ups

Plan on a furnace tune-up in the fall and AC or heat-pump service in the spring. Heat pumps that run year-round do best with both. A visit covers filters and airflow, burners and heat exchanger (or coils), safeties, electrical, refrigerant where it applies, and whether the system is short cycling.

Montana winters are a long run-time. Catching a weak igniter in October is cheaper than a no-heat night in January. Same idea for cooling: a failing capacitor in May is easier than a cooked compressor in a heat wave.

Questions

What does HVAC stand for?

Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. In a Flathead Valley home that usually means a furnace, air conditioner, heat pump, or mini split — plus the airflow that moves conditioned air through the house.

How often should I change my furnace filter?

Every 30 to 90 days is the usual range (Trane and most manufacturers agree). In Montana, check monthly during heating season. Pets, wildfire smoke, and dusty shops mean more frequent changes. A clogged filter is one of the most common reasons a system overheats, ices, or short-cycles.

How often should HVAC be serviced?

Plan on a furnace tune-up in the fall before heating season, and AC or heat-pump service in spring before cooling season. Heat pumps that run year-round do best with two visits a year. Annual service is the standard recommendation from manufacturers and local Montana HVAC guides — especially here, where winters are long and hard on equipment.

How long do furnaces, air conditioners, and heat pumps last?

With regular maintenance, furnaces often last about 15–20 years, central air conditioners about 12–15 years, and heat pumps about 15 years. Age alone isn’t the whole story. Repair history, installation quality, and how hard Flathead winters work the system matter more than a round number.

Should I repair or replace my HVAC system?

Repair makes sense when the unit is relatively young, the fix is straightforward, and parts are still available. Replacement is worth talking about when the system is past mid-life, repairs keep stacking up, or it’s struggling to keep up on the coldest nights. We’ll price the repair first and tell you honestly if the money is better spent another way.

Why isn’t my air conditioner cooling — or why is it icing up?

Common causes are a dirty filter, restricted airflow, a failing blower, low refrigerant, or dirty coils. Ice on the lines or coil is a “stop and call” problem — running an iced unit can damage the compressor. Don’t keep resetting it and hoping.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency furnace repair?

Yes. Call (406) 260-2952 any hour — Reeve answers, and there's no after-hours upcharge.

Do heat pumps work in Montana winters?

Cold-climate models do. A generic heat pump is the wrong tool here, which is why we size and pick for Flathead winters. Call us and we'll tell you whether a heat pump fits your home.
